Welcome to the FAQ page for the Rainbow Stash: Spin the Wheel textile challenge!
Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions about how the challenge works, what you’ll make, and how to take part.

What is the 2026 Rainbow Stash Challenge about?

The 2026 challenge explores the colour wheel, using monthly prompts such as analogous, triadic, complementary, tetradic, and more.
Each month we “spin the wheel” to reveal a new feature colour and creative direction.

What do participants make each month?

Monthly Standard Piece

  • One 8" x 8" textile art piece.

  • Use the colour of the month and the colour wheel prompt (e.g., Split Complementary).

Large Feature Piece (optional)

  • One 40 cm x 60 cm artwork.

  • Only for participants who sign up for one of the limited 24 large-piece slots.

  • Makers of large pieces do not need to complete the 8" piece for that month.

  • Advance notice of the colour and prompt will be provided.

How much does it cost?

  • $25 per month (paid as a single payment or subscription through 2SewTextiles.com).

  • +$50 one-time fee for those creating a large feature piece (covers admin & transport).

  • Monthly fees are handled via the website.

  • The $50 fee is best paid by direct deposit.

Refund Policy

  • Monthly subscriptions may be cancelled at any time.

  • The $50 large-piece fee is non-refundable, except if no exhibition occurs.

How do monthly challenges get delivered?

Each month you’ll receive:

  • The colour of the month

  • The prompt

  • A short colour theory explanation

  • Challenge notifications via:

    • A monthly Zoom meeting

    • Email

    • The Rainbow Stash Buster Facebook group

What materials and techniques can I use?

Anything!
You may use:

  • Stitch

  • Appliqué

  • Paint

  • Dye

  • Collage

  • Mixed media

  • Your existing fabric stash

You’re encouraged to develop a body of work that reflects your own style and interests.

How do I submit my work?

  • Upload a clear, good-quality photo each month to the Facebook group.

  • Use a neutral background where possible.

  • Please label your work with its name and month.

  • Finished pieces intended for exhibition must include 4 Velcro patches on the back for hanging.

What are the deadlines?

This challenge is intentionally no-pressure.
Life happens — catch up when you can!

Will there be exhibitions?

Possibly.

  • Selected works may be included in future displays.

  • This is not guaranteed.

  • If an exhibition does not proceed, the $50 large-piece fee will be refunded.

  • A printed book of the artworks is planned as an optional extra (charged at cost + postage).

Do I need a specific colour wheel?

Any colour wheel is fine.
We recommend the Artist’s Color Wheel because it clearly shows the relationships we’ll be using.

Can beginners join?

Absolutely!
This challenge suits all levels — it’s about creativity, exploration, and having fun.

What if I’m away or travelling?

No worries — just catch up when it suits you.

Can I work ahead?

No.
Part of the fun is the surprise and shared experience of each month’s spin of the wheel.

What if my fabric colours don’t match exactly?

If you are happy with your colour choices, then we are happy too.
This is a creative challenge, not a test.
